After nearly a decade of perfecting tail bags, our latest design offers a simpler fit with enhanced fastening options, including an easy double velcro closure alongside the adjustable wraparound velcro you trust. Made from our signature weatherproof ripstop material and stitched with UV-bonded cotton, these tail bags are built to endure Australia’s toughest conditions and deliver long-lasting durability.

Our Horse Tail Bags from the Pattern Range are crafted from Funky Feathers material, a durable ripstop fabric with a UV stabiliser and waterproof coating. This ensures your horse’s tail stays protected from the elements. Please allow up to 48 hours before shipping, as the coating needs time to set for optimal performance. Designed to offer reliable protection and longevity, these lined tail bags are a practical choice for your equine care.

For best fit, plait horses tail just under tail bone and with a ruler or tape measure, measure across the plait to find the perfect width size.

STD fits up to 10cm and is suitable for most horse tails. Think.. Thoroughbreds, Arabians, Appaloosas, Quarter Horses, Ponies etc

STD PLUS fits up to 12cm and is suitable for our fuller tailed horses. Think.. Quarter Horses and X's, Standardbreds, Morgans,

WIDE fits up to 15cm and is suitable for quite thick horse tails. For eg; Clydesdales, Gypsy Cobs and X's, Friesians etc and has a slightly wider and longer front close tab.

EXTRA WIDE fits up to 20cm and is designed to fit those extremely thick tails! Gypsy Cobs, Friesians, Morgans etc though we are always happy to make even wider if needed! Our EXTRA WIDE now has our 2 x tab closure to better balance and fit the extra wide tail.

WORKHORSE Style tail bag is our answer for keeping your horse's tail up and out of the way while working/training and also protecting it from flies. The WORKHORSE Tail Bag is about 15cms wide and allows a tail to be folded in halves or thirds to fit within. Choose from 30 to 45cm length with the fly swisher making up the rest of the length with it being about 55cm long (trim shorter to suit horse) and 2 extra swishers are supplied.

Our durable rugless horse tail bags are renowned for their ability to remain in place when needed and usually always do, but may come loose in an emergency due to the use of velcro fastenings (thankfully!)

Custom-made to order tail bags may take 2-4 days to complete, but I will provide progress updates if any longer. Keep this in mind when ordering, and check out our Ready Made Tail Bags for popular options and sizes and run out designs.

Note: Handmade items may have slight variances in length and slight imperfections. Some older tail bag designs may still pictured.

1. Section a clean washed, conditioned and semi dry tail into three.

2. Starting from under the base of the dock, loosely plait down to begin with for a few plaits (so not so tight for horses comfort, and ability to thread over tab through) and increase tightness to the end of tail.

3. With preferred elastic band, secure end of plait tightly.

4. Place tail into bag until top of bag is in line with end of dock.

5. Thread back over tab hook and loop through the ’loose’ plait from the back as high and close to the dock and secure to front tab.

6. Close the small security tab over the front over tab (if bag has one)

7. Secure the wraparound hook and loop either over (for more security) or under the front tab trimming excess if needed.

TAIL CARE: For best results check and add detangler/smoothing serum etc and re-plait/bag or wash and condition tail and re-plait/bag every 2 to 3 weeks.

WASHING: Warm hand wash with mild detergent is preferable for the longevity of the water resistant coating of the material.

WARNING: This style of tail bag is NOT designed to be worn OVER the dock and the material can be noisy, so care needs to be taken with introducing these first to see how your horse reacts with wearing them.
